My first impressions of the novel were not too good. I thought that when we started reading this book it was going to be very boring and i wouldn't be interested so i wouldn't read it. My opinion changed after reading the first couple chapters though. It got interesting learning the different ways of African people. I feel that the Igbo culture is a very fascinating but odd culture.

They do things very differently then we do. One difference between our cultures is that they have more then 1 wife if they so choose. Another difference is that they are allowed to beat there wives and what not and its allowed. I would say that a similarity is that in both of our cultures, people are judged by how wealthy they are in there community.

The Igbo culture defines masculinity in a strong way. In there culture men run everything and are in complete charge of how things go. American masculinity is a little bit different. Men do a lot but women can usually do the same amount of things that a man could do in America.
